The funeral march started and everyone rose for the arrival of the coffin. Rachael turned to see her best friend Matt being carried in by some of his family. She'd begged Matt's mum and dad not to play the funeral march. Matt had always said he would hate that. She turned to look at his younger brother, Darren. He was crying silently, holding onto his uncle tightly. His mother though, was sobbing quiet loudly while her husband tried to comfort her.
Rachael didnt cry, all the tears had been shed when she lay at Matt's bedside while the life-support machine was turned off. He was pronounced 'brain-dead', his parents decided it would be best to let him go peacefully.
All Matt's life he had suffered with epilepsy. The doctors gave him countless tablets to try and control it, but none could. About 4 weeks ago he had a 'grandma seizure' and hit his he*d so hard, it cracked his skull. He was a fighter though, always had been. He lasted 3 weeks.
The music had stopped and everyone sat. Time wasnt existant in Rachael's mind and before she new it, she was stood infront of everyone. Matt's parent's had asked her to say something at the funeral, because she was so close to their son. Her and Matt had been best friends since the age of 2, the strange thing was their birthday was on the exact same day. They had celebrated every birthday together. She remembered the great times they had together, their last birthday together was their 18th so they had gone clubbing. Finally being able to use their correct i.d's and not the fake ones they had used a million times before.
"Matt was...is the greatest friend i've ever had. He always said no-one new him better than me, i guess he was right. He helped me so many times. I got into trouble alot and Matt was one of the people who stood by me. When i was accused of GBH, he was the only one who believed that i didnt do it. When i was in court, he was the one who was there, sticking up for me. It was only when i was cleared of all charges did everyone else come back into the picture. Matt believed in me, he was the only one at the time. For that, i will always love him. Always."
She watched as the man she loved most, was lowered into the muddy grave. Everyone left shortly and she was the only one there. She knelt down, ignoring the fact she was ruining her best black dress. "Hey Mattie, you'll never believe....
She sat there for hours talking to him, just like when he was here.
Death is just another part of life
Its just a second stage
People live and people die
Just because someone's dead
It doesnt mean they have left you
